No weaving going on here...but it sure is happening at Amy's house.....lovely work and so glad she took the classes....so fun for her...................but here it is still outside work.....cows to feed until the 20th of November which is the 'processing' date....we now say that instead of butchering..political correctness.....the meat is for the kids....and one of the MG members brought me a pickup load of weeping birch and I worked on it for a few hours today until it began to rain...making some twiggy hearts....and last picture is of the mountain ash and it is so beautiful this time of year....

Warped Weekend

My husband and I spent some time warping this weekend. We started with getting the Hammett ready to do some more rag rugs. All went well with that warping. Next I was threading the Gilmore when I realized that I didn't have enough heddles on shaft 1. Yes I know that I should have counted the heddles but I didn't, so now I have left that for awhile. Then I purchased another loom, a Louet Kombo,  I had everything ready to tie on when I noticed that I had misthreaded. So it is sitting there.
Other news, my two goals this year were to take a class and sell something. I have achieved both of these goals. I attended the Weaver's School for a week and I sold my neighbor one of my weavings that I did at the school. My husband has also sold his first two scarves to a friend. When he gave the scarves to his friend, his friend said,"I didn't know they would look this good!" Well they did look good!

and still be able to take it to classes.

Yesterday my husband and I went on a road trip. The really nice thing is that we live within driving distance from Pendleton Oregon, which is the home of the Pendleton Woolen Mill. We toured the mill and brought home some selvedges from rugs and 3 cones of wool. While we were getting our things a lady from Nevada came in and bought so many bags of selvedges that she was poking holes in the bags to get out the air, so she could buy more. The woman in the shop said that she comes once a year and stocks up.

This is an 8-shaft advancing twill design called "Swedish Snowflake Twill." It was the first design that I wove in class. I love it. I think it would look great in bamboo as a scarf. What do you think? Enjoy, Amy

Sample #5

Sample 5 is an overshot pattern. I had trouble with this one. I was following the directions but didn't realize that I was suppose to just use the directions for the start. Since I had already finished 3 rows, I decided to continue and just to be consistent with the pattern. It turned out looking okay, so okay that my neighbor wants to buy it!

Sample #4

I just got back from the Goodwill store with a couple of wool sweaters. Hopefully I can get them to felt. I am teaching a needle felting class next Wednesday. This is with a group of currant and retired teachers. There will be about 20 people. We have about 3 quilters in our group and a couple of knitters but none of them have done any needle felting. It took me awhile to get all the supplies for the class but I needed more wool felt, hence the 2 sweaters. The next sample is a color gamp with twill. Enjoy, Amy

I'm Back

I am back from weaving school. I spent a week at www.weaversschool.com. It was great, I wove 10 samples, made some mistakes, corrected some and didn't even see some of then until my weaving was off the loom. But even my mistakes were helpful in my learning. I learned about the use of profile drafts, something I have wondered about and were unable to understand until this class. I always wondered what a skeleton tie up was, something I didn't understand until now. I took the beginners class, which was exactly where I belonged, since I have never taken any class before.  I would recommend the school and it is in a beautiful little town on a island. You can't beat that. There were 10 students and 2 instructors, so a lot of individual attention. The school was opened from 8 to 8, instruction 10 to 4. I only stayed until 4 each day. I get tired if I weave too long and mistakes start to happen. I am not going to share my samples until I can share them with my sisters. We will have lunch on Friday, so next week I will show samples. But the pictures show a little bit of the studio and the little wolf pups that we wove on.

Well, it happened

frost!!!...the squash, pumpkin, peppers and tomato plants are all a bit limp this morning...and basil is very sad.....but I watched the weather report and did some serious harvesting.   Yesterday I made some tomato sauce using basil, peppers and tomatoes from the garden so all did not go to waste.   I picked any tomatoes that had a smidge of color and brought them in.....and then there were the peppers...I froze some, bagged some for the refrigerator and then pawned them off on anyone I could think of.   They were so prolific this year and such beautiful colors.   I had bell, sweet yellow banana, pimentos and jalepenos.....
