Weaving Finishing

We have been in a major melt mode around here. It always happens, it snows and then we start in with melting, the snow usually doesn't stay around. I have cut off my wool rug or maybe it is a saddle blanket. I need to finish off the edges yet. I will put it with my sewing machine along side the bibs that I need to finish sewing. That finishing stuff takes up time and I don't always get to it quickly. I have started the shadow weave and have gotten to the threading the heddles and I have started another warp on the Hammett rug loom. It is just going to be a 9 inch warp for something that I am going to try to do. I will post more about that warp later.
Shadow weave-one dark, one light etc.

Rug or Saddle Blanket-actually I don't know anything
about saddle blankets-it just reminded me of one

Another Favorite Thing

Yes, we have snow, snow and more snow. I have shoveled 3 times and probably need to do it again. I had to remove some from our foundation since we don't like water in the basement. I have had trouble with my weaving of the wool rug, broken warp threads and more broken warp threads, so after I finish about 5 more inches, I am going to cut off this warp. I am going to just use the linen for weft, since it didn't work as warp. I have started to warp a scarf from the yarn that I bought this summer in Seattle. It is going to be a shadow weave. I have never done a shadow weave, so this should be interesting. I will post pictures when I get a little further. The other day all three of us got together for lunch at Diana's house. She made a great lunch and a dessert to die for-as I drove down her driveway I thought she should have put up a sign that said, "Quail Crossing," since I had to slow way down and watch out for the quail, they ran back and forth oner the driveway. I started a line a long time ago about some of my favorite things and I am continuing this by showing the vanity that we installed in our main floor bath. It is the cabinet of my grandmother's treadle sewing machine. And here is hoping that the power is restored to my sister and nephew who live over on the westside of the mountains. The paper says that it may take several days until they have power again.
The little stool  fits just inside the treadles and it is there for
my grandson.

Indeed winter is here

shoveling has been the beginning of the day here...it snowed all day yesterday and finally quit so the task has begun.   Some pathways done, and upper and lower deck, but no pathway to the tool shed or compost pile or my little gardening shed......it will have to wait while my toes unthaw.   I had boots that I think I owned since 1965 and finally tossed them last year and I am bootless......tennis shoes just don't get it.   I so wanted to take a photo of all the quail I have been feeding but they are very camera shy.   I think I might have to go back to work so that I can afford feed for them..........................have loved seeing my sister's posts on here...Amy's weaving is so beautiful.....and like when she shows off her finds out there....I loved the little frogs...I have many and just might put them on here if I ever get into my shed again.

Snow and Stuff

Sorry for the glare, I wanted to scan these but
sometimes what I want isn't what the computer
wants to do.
Yes, the great snowstorm of the Pacific Northwest has hit our valley. We have several inches out there. This morning I thought about going to exercise but decided to just shovel snow in the driveway. My husband is going to have back surgery sometime this spring, so he isn't up to shoveling, so it became my job. Both of us had to go get our son's dog and our grandson from preschool but we have decided that we really don't need to go out in it anymore today. Last weekend when we went to the estate sale and got the frogs, I also got a small part of the McCall's Needlework and Crafts magazine from Spring-Summer 1964. Actually the woman at the estate sale just let me have the clippings. They are knitting patterns for Barbie. Just too cute and wow Barbie has really changed. I don't have any small girl children in our family, so I may offer this on E-bay, unless someone in cyber space wants it.

Frog Day

Yes, I have been weaving-but not as much
as I should be doing
Look at that baby one in the upper right-too cute
This is the only one that I have ever seen that
breaks apart into three pieces-not sure why
Today I went to an estate sale and picked up a few goodies. Mostly I picked up some frogs. I happened to know that my sisters and I all like frogs. I can understand why my sister who loves to garden likes frogs but not sure why my other sister and I do-we just do. I love finding some unusual ones too.

Goody Box and Rug

Today I got a goody box from www.woolery.com. It is always nice to get a goody box but since I ordered this one it wasn't a great big surprise. I ordered some rug warp, gray, to make some jean rugs, some more cottolin for towels and some bobbins. I am hoping to receive another goody box tomorrow, maybe I will be taking another picture. I have also started the wool rug and I am liking how the wool looks on the loom. But today I didn't get a chance to weave, I think that I used my weaving time for a nap.
This picture is so yellow looking because I had to use
the flash, no natural light here today, gray and cloudy.

My workshop, the kitchen....

Finally the computer let me put on a photo.   These are hardwood garden stakes donated by one of our members to to us for whatever use we wanted....I took them home, cleaned them, primed them and painted them like colored pencils and they are so cute.....we will be using three of them each to create trellises to sell at our MG plant sale.   This year we are including garden art too.   I have had three people see them and want to buy so think they will sell well.   So nice to get them donated........we need more I think....

Starting a Rug

I would love to see what Diana is working on with the pickets, get that computer working! I have finished warping my Hammett and I had to get some of the wool yarn into balls from hanks. So I spent some time on that today. I probably won't get to the weaving until this weekend because we have our youngest grandson everyday and I don't get much done while he is here-I have also promised that I would play "Puss in Boots" on the Wii tomorrow.  I noticed that Diana is busy cleaning out, I know that because she has asked us if we want some things. So that must be one of her goals this year. I have thought about some goals too and yes I need to clean out some things too. Some of my other goals are: 1. selling something that I have woven, I have given away, donated and kept all the things that I have woven, but I would love to just sell one thing. So I will have to get busy and reopen an www.etsy.com store or go to bazaars this next year. If I go sell at bazaars, I will have to make some things that are inexpensive, because I think that that are the only things someone here will buy. 2. My other goal is to take a weaving class. I am thinking about going to www.weaversschool.com. It is in Coupeville, Washington on Whidbey Island, a very pretty area. This is the school started by Madelyn vanderHoogt.  So there are two of my goals. Yes I could made more but I will stick to just these two.
These are the colors that I am going to use in
my wool rug. I may throw in a little red too, I
haven't decided about yet. (sorry it is
going the wrong way, but I think you can
still see the colors)

This is the tag on the yarn. I bought it on
ebay.
